DUI High Range Red suspended P's

Hi, Ive been charged with DUI 0.169 on a suspended red p's.
Do you think I need a barrister for this, ive spoken with a lawyer and they suggest so, it is my first offence and are wanting me to pay $2500.00.
do you see this as normal?
