Drink driving in Gladstone

Postby ddforum » September 12th, 2011, 1:09 pm

Another weekend and another spate of drink-drivers with five nabbed across the Gladstone region during the weekend. Police are appealing for motorists to avoid the temptation of driving after having a few drinks.

Gladstone Police Sergeant Sally Moreton said it was disappointing to see the number of drink-drivers detected, especially the two high readings recorded. "The message is still not getting through," Sgt Moreton said. "People are becoming involved in traffic accidents and recording roadside breath alcohol concentration readings." The highest BAC reading went to a 27-year-old man who was intercepted by police on Hampton Dr, Tannum Sands, on Saturday at 1am. The man recorded a reading of .204%.

A 31-year-old man blew .199% in a random roadside breath test on Glenlyon Rd at 1.30am on Saturday. Police intercepted a 21-year-old male motorist on Dawson Highway, Calliope, on Friday at 11.30pm. He recorded a BAC of .088%. A 25-year-old man was also charged with drink driving (.085%) and unlicensed driving following a two vehicle crash on Auckland St. The accident occurred about 8.15pm on Saturday. And a 20-year-old man blew .048% after being pulled over by police on Dawson Rdin the early hours of Sunday morning.
