Drink driver legs it in Croydon

Postby ddforum » September 6th, 2011, 1:09 pm

Croydon police were forced to chase an alleged drink-driver on foot when he abandoned his car and fled on Sunday morning.

The 54-year-old Chirnside Park man allegedly drove past police on Hewish Rd at 3am on Sunday (September 4) with no headlights.

After the police gave chase, the man left his car in Croydon Park and ran along a laneway near Main St.

Acting Sgt Mark Van Suylen said the driver was apprehended without incident and registered a blood alcohol reading of .069.

“He was charged with drink-driving, driving without his headlights and driving an unregistered vehicle,” Sgt Van Suylen said.

“The police are on the look out for drink-drivers and we’re looking to reduce the road toll in the area.”
