The Australian Defence Force has confirmed details of the incident to the Sunday Herald Sun.

It is the latest of three incidents in six months involving Australian soldiers drinking while on duty.

All of the soldiers involved in the crash, which occurred in August, were punished when they returned to Australia.

The driver was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and causing damage to military property, and was fined $300 and 24 days' pay.

The others involved were charged with drinking on duty, and one soldier was punished for fleeing the scene of the accident.

It was not revealed in which country the accident occurred.

Eight soldiers were punished for a boozy trip to Dubai on January 10.

Two others were sent home for drinking on duty in July and September, leading to one soldier being demoted to a lower rank.

Military culture expert Dr Ben Wadham, from Flinders University, warned it was evidence of serious alcohol abuse among the force.
