Truck driver drunk and disqualified in Adelaide

Postby ddforum » March 9th, 2012, 8:14 am

Adelaide police have arrested a truck driver for drink-driving and driving while disqualified after he crashed his truck into a stobie pole in the city.

The flat-bed truck was heading south in Morphett Street just after midnight when it crashed into a pole while travelling around a bend into Whitmore Square.

The crash led to a power blackout in the south-west of the city.

Police allege the driver left the scene but say he was found in nearby Sturt Street.

The man, 40, was breath-tested and allegedly blew 0.171.

He is also alleged to have last held a valid driver's licence in 2008.

Traffic restrictions around Whitmore Square were expected to end in time for the morning peak.

The driver will face charges of drink driving, driving while disqualified and leaving the scene of an accident.

He has been given bail and will face Adelaide Magistrates Court next month.
