Drink driver tried to bribe us: police

Postby ddforum » November 25th, 2011, 9:27 am

A 22-year-old man allegedly tried to bribe police to escape a drink driving charge in Goodna overnight.

About 12.30am, police were on patrol in Alice Street when they allegedly spotted a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Officers and another motorist had to take evasion action to avoid a collison.

Police stopped the car in Bertha Street and performed a roadside breath test on the driver.

The driver locked his car doors and refused to get out of the car when he was told to accompany the officers to the station for a further test, police said.

Officers removed the man from his car after a passenger unlocked the door.

He was taken to the Springfield Police Station where he reportedly recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.203 and allegedly offered the officers an "incentive" not to charge him.

The man, from Currimundi on the Sunshine Coast, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle whilst adversely affected, driving under the influence of liquor, bribery and obstructing police.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
