Postby ddforum » September 20th, 2011, 9:49 am

Police have been kept busy over the weekend with several local residents stopped and charged for drink driving. Three people have also had their licence suspended after returning high range readings. Early on Saturday morning police in Lithgow had stopped a 39-year-old Lithgow man in Malvern Street after he was sighted by police at 1am driving at excessive speed down Methven Street.

The man turned into Malvern Street, lost control of his car and spun 360 degrees. He was given a breath test which returned a positive reading. He was arrested and taken to the station where a high range reading was recorded. The man’s licence was suspended and he will also appear before the court. Around the same time Portland police arrested a second person for the same crime after he was stopped for a random breath test on Wolgan Street Portland.

The 25-year-old Portland man returned a positive reading and was taken to the police station for a breath analysis where he returned a high range reading. His licence was also suspended and he will appear in court. Later in the morning, around 2.15, police were called to a motor vehicle accident in Corlette Street, Portland.

A 32-year-old man had collided his Toyota Hilux with a parked vehicle before hitting a brick fence. Police noticed the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and issued a breath test on the scene.

The man returned a positive reading and was taken back to the police station where a breath analysis showed a high range reading. His licence was suspended at the time and the man will appear in court.
