Hi

I live in NSW and have a NSW drivers license

Last night I was pulled over in th eACT and blew a reading of 0.073

I have been not so reliably informed that one state doesn't have the power to disqulify a lisence from another state and the ACT courts can only ban me from driving in the ACT

Can somebody please tell me if this is true as I need a license for my job

Thanks
I

Hello,

If you are disqualified from driving in the ACT, you are not permitted to drive anywhere in Australia.

The confusion here may be related to police suspensions. For example, in the ACT a full licence holder charged with drink driving with a reading of above 0.1 your licence will be immediately suspended by police (in NSW you will be immediately suspended for a reading of 0.08 or above). This police suspension means that you cannot drive in the ACT, but does not always prohibit driving in NSW depending on your licence status.

If you are concerned about the impact of a disqualification on your licence it is important to get competent legal advice as soon as possible.
